COMMANDER’S CORNER

Let me wish everyone a very enjoyable Valentine’s Day.  We will have a Valentine Dance in the Lounge on Saturday evening, Feb 13.  So, get out with your Valentine and enjoy an evening and dinner at this time.  The kitchen will be serving till 9 PM.  Music will be by Mickey King’s “Route 66.”  As you notice, we have a new Key Card available if your ‘99 dues are up to date.  If not, we need for all to renew your membership.  At this time, we are 82% of our goal for the year.

We are so fortunate to have such a great post and many dedicated Legionnaires who are always involved with all the work it takes to keep our organization in the great shape it is in.  Thanks to the Legionnaires like finance officer Bob Lee, adjutants Carl Athearn and Cathy Brown, our Chaplain Larry Wirth; all have done a great job.  Let us all stand tall in support of Post 95 this last year of the 20th Century.

    For God and Country.

Ken Wild, Commander

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Our membership on Jan. 21 stood at 1,130, or 237 short of our goal of 1367.  Several members of Post 95 have accepted lists of those members who have not paid their 1999 dues and will be contacting them.  If you are among these, we ask that you pay your 1999 dues now.  The American Legion must have numbers to approach congress when asking for the assistance that veterans are entitled to.  Help us obtain those numbers.

Carl Athearn, Adjutant, 867-7644

Cathy Brown, Asst. Adjutant 165-1610

AUXILIARY NEWS

February will be Americanism Month and we will have an interesting speaker.  So, make plans now to attend.  This month is also the month to do something special for a veteran or the veterans’ hospital.  Visit our local VA Clinic.  They also need volunteers at the clinic.

Our Las Vegas Night is set for February 20, starting at 7 PM.  come out and join in on the games and bid on the nice prizes we have.  We also need more gifts.  Ask for donations from your hairdresser, the restaurants where you eat, or any place where you may be able to get something for the auction.  We also need workers, as well as players.  let me know if you would like to help with this event.

We have lost several members this year: Ina Foster, Maggie Whaley, Joyce Turner and Dorris Elliott.  they will be missed by family, friends and their auxiliary.

Membership is now at 1,397 and we need 31 more to be the 100 percent. Ask everyone you know if they are a member and, if they are eligible, to become a member.  Sign them up.  We need new members and remember juniors count, too.

Board meeting Feb. 10, 7 PM
Covered dish dinner Feb. 25, 7 PM
Regular meeting Feb. 25, 8 PM

HONOR GUARD

As our Post 95 moves into the month of February ‘99, we need more volunteers to contact me and participate in our Honor Guard commitments.  You will feel so much better about doing our veteran’s work.  Including the many funerals we do, we are involved and  participate with our Chattanooga Area Veterans Council.  Our Honor Guard is a big part of your post benefits.

For 13 years Frank Hall was a member of our Honor Guard, from the time we started.  His death hurts us all.

 Honor Guard Commander, 866-0138
