Commander's Corner

As we approach the month of June, I would like to express my appreciation for all the support I have received from all legionnaires and auxiliary members. We have accomplished quite a bit of work in regards to post repairs. Let us all remember the sacrifices all veterans have given our country in all the past wars. Without the veterans we would not have the country we have today. I feel very fortunate to be an officer of such a great group of veterans.

For God and Country.
Ken Wild, Commander

We have so many good programs to present for your and their support and remember the main purpose of The American Legion is Veterans helping Veterans and their families. So come on and let’s work.

Department Convention

Let all members remember the Department Convention, June 25 through June 27. Let's be appreciative for all the members who give their time and finances to represent us. It is a good time but also a work session and Post 95 is always well represented. Thank you, attending members.

Memorial Headstones

Many veterans and their families are unaware of an area at national cemeteries devoted to gravesites without bodies. Reasons for these memorial areas, that headstones and markers are provided, are: remains not recovered, or identified, burial at sea, and the most recent cause, bodies donated to science, For complete details on headstones and markers read the official and very informative article in latest (May) issue of "The Tennessee Legionnaire." Written and researched by our very efficient Dept. Service Officer, Tommy Blaylock, at the request of one of our Post 95 members.

Auxiliary News

A new year for the auxiliary will start in July and all the new officers will be needing your help. You can help just by attending the meetings. The new officers are: President, Geraldine Perkins; 1st Vice, Dot Stewart; 2nd Vice, Barbara Crabtree; chaplain, Anissa Witt; secretary, Martha Mosteller; treasurer, Jo Bridges; sgt.-at-arms, Daisy Wirth; and board members, Eva Hickey, Aileen Wilson, Jeane Athearn and Penny Jeffery. Eva Hickey, poppy chairman, did a great with the poppies this year thanks to everyone who helped work this year for without your help she could not have done so well.

Convention time is almost here and any member in good standing can attend, Make your plans to be in Gatlinburg on June 25-27. If you have never been to a convention this is the one to make. I want to thank everyone for helping make the past year a good one for your auxiliary. All the reports are in and the race for the roses is finished. We made our goal on membership which was 428, and your $20 dues can be paid at the July picnic.

Thanks to the ones who took a committee, to the ones who helped clean the kitchen after the meetings and to the ones who were loyal members and just attended the meetings.

Honor Guard News

In my opinion the 1`999 Armed Forces Day Parade and Luncheon was one of our best. Our Post 95 Color Guard stood tall, marched well and got a great hand from the Reviewing Stand, city, county, state and service brass. Thanks for a job well done and see you at the installation meeting Saturday, June 19.

Ralph C. Wilson

Honor Guard Commander
