Commander's Corner

I would like to thank everyone who helped make our 4th of July picnic a great success.  Ernie and his help, along with the ladies of the Auxiliary all did a fine job in preparing our meal.  We had a great turnout, despite the high temperatures and humidity.  And that didn't even stop the shuffle board players, who played until dark!  Everybody seemed to have a good afternoon.   Hope to see you at our next event.  The first district meeting for the Third District will be held at Post 95 on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 7 PM.  The following will be present: New Department Commander Rollen Bradshaw, East Tennessee Vice Commander Olin B. Ridley, Third District Commander Kenneth Howard, Department Membership Chairman Robert Kreider and Department Adjutant Mike Hammer.

This will be a very informative meeting, so make plans to attend, and pass the word on.

For God and Country
Jim Ratcliffe, Commande

Auxiliary News

The Auxiliary would like to thank the American Legion for the 4th of July picnic and the ones that worked so hard.  Everyone had a great time. Dot Stewart and the ones who helped did a real good job on the membership drive.  We now have 114 paid members.  Please pay your dues early so we can meet half our goal by the middle of August. August is Girls State month.  Nancy Watson will be in charge of this.   She will have some of the young ladies speak about the things they have learned.   Please try to attend this meeting and support these young ladies. Thank you Penny Jeffery for the great job you did with the Glamour Photos.  It was a great success. I would like to thank all of the Auxiliary members for their help and support they gave for our Membership Dinner and Fashion show.  Barbara Crabtree and Committee did a great job setting this up.  Everyone had a fun time.

Ladies, I would like to see our Auxiliary grow. Lets all work hard to do this.  Attend the meetings.

Honor Guard News

Our Color and Honor Guard members have had a very active summer so far doing Color Guards and Military funerals.  We are doing most of these short handed.  We need at least six more dedicated members to step up NOW and serve our Post.  We have lost this many who have become disabled.  Many are WW II veterans.  We want to continue this benefit for our Post and members.

Just one more reason to re-new your American Legion membership.

Jolie Lawing has expressed her appreciation to the Honor Guard, the Auxiliary and Legionnaires for their kindness in the loss of Mutt Lawing.

Ralph C. Wilson
Honor Guard Commander 866-0138
