COMMANDER Jim Ratciffe listens to plans being made for the 50th anniversary of the plane crash of Capt. William E. Blair. Ceremonies are planned for Thursday, Sept. 30, at 6 PM at the post home.
WALLY CARPENTER served as chairman of the committee honoring Capt. Blair. The post was named after the pilot who crashed his plan tosave lives in the community. The Third District meeting held last month at Post 95 was a big success. Thanks to the Auxiliary and Ernie Gilliam for a fine job with the meal. I received many good comments. As always, everyone worked hard in making this a big success. As you can see by looking at our calendar, we have a lot going on this month. One event is the 50th Remembrance of William E. Blair which will be held at the Post on September 30, at 6 PM. Wally Carpenter and the committee put a lot of time and effort into making this a big celebration, so please try and attend. Also, we will have a new band, which I understand is very good, on Sept 17. Everyone should try to stay after the regular monthly meeting and enjoy. Let's give them a big welcome. The Auxiliary is hosting the Gold Star Mothers ceremony at Post 95 on Sept 26, at 2 PM. This will be a good event. I look forward to seeing everybody at our Labor Day picnic on Monday, Sept. 6, at 5 PM, as well as other events this month. For God and Country |

September is the month that has been set nation wide to honor our Gold Star Mothers. There will be a special ceremony on Sunday, September 26, at 2 o'clock. This will be at the American Legion Post 95.
September is the American Legion's Labor Day Picnic. At this time, we will be selling tickets for our $500 cash give away which will be given away at the Christmas Dinner. We will need a lot of help selling these tickets. So we are depending on all Auxiliary members to make this a big success. The tickets will be numbered and have stubs this year. Jean Athearn will be in charge of the tickets.
Our membership is really doing well. We now have 258 paid members. Good going Dot, and Auxiliary members for paying your dues early. We now have half our goal.
We would like to thank the young ladies of the Girls State for the reports they gave at our meeting. Nancy Watson does a great job with our young ladies.
If you know anyone who is sick and in the hospital, please notify our Sunshine Committee, Barbara Crabtree, 698-4791, or Geraldine Perkins, 866-0577. We do need to know if anyone is sick or has a death in their family.
I hope to see all of you at our September meeting.

I want to welcome a new member to our Honor Guard team. His name is Harold Miller. We need to put him in uniform so he can go to work with us right away.
We are proud of our Honor Guard Team, of the band that plays the Service theme songs and Taps, and don't forget the ones that prepare the wonderful meals at Post 95. Just another one of the great benefits and why you should renew your 2000 membership dues NOW.
