Commander's Corner

We had a good attendance at our Labor Day picnic.  Thanks to those of you who attended.  And, I would like to say a special thanks to all those who worked so hard in preparing and serving such a fine meal.   Great job in making this event a big success.

Speaking of food, don't forget about the Early Bird breakfast on Saturday, October 23, from 7 AM to 9 AM in the meeting hall.  All members who have paid their 2000 dues are invited to attend.  If you have not paid your 2000 dues yet, don't let that stop you.  We will have a table setup to renew your membership.   So, please come on out and join us for breakfast.  Also, Blood Assurance will be there for donations.  So eat, and give.

We are planning to take a bus to the Mid Winter Conference in Kingsport, TN, to be held January 21-January 23.  Look for details in the Post.   We need your support to make this happen.

The William E. Blair 50th Remembrance celebration was a tremendous event. I'd like to thank everyone who participated on the 50th Remembrance Committee.   They worked hard to make this event a success.

Remember, please pay your 2000 dues by the end of this month.  If you haven't, renew now!

For God and Country
Jim Ratcliffe, Commande

Auxiliary News

The Auxiliary would like to thank the American Legion for the Labor Day picnic. A 'special thank you' to the ones who cooked and served. We also did real well on our ticket sales. Our tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, so please buy your tickets from an Auxiliary member. If you would, please sale some of these tickets, Please see Jean Athearn for your tickets. I would like to thank everyone who helped with the ceremony for the Gold Star Mothers. They seemed to enjoy it so much and they really deserved this. There will be a Third District Meeting held at Post 95 on October 31, at 2 PM. Please try to attend this meeting. We really need to support our Third District President, Jo Bridges, and our Auxiliary.

Our membership is doing real well. We now have 318 paid members. Please pay your dues now so we can be 100% by November. Thanks Dot for a great Job.

Attention 'Juniors', there will be a meeting for you every 4th Thursday of each month at 6:15 PM. Please attend these meetings. Jo Bridges has many great things planned for you to do this year. I think you will find it very interesting.

Our special project is Aid Our Veterans. We handed out a list of things they need at Veterans Hospital. Please try and bring one item from the list each month.

October is Education month. There will be two scholarships given to two deserving people.

We would like to see a lot of our new members attend our meetings. Please come.

Honor Guard News

I want to emphasize to our members, Legion, and Auxiliary to just stop, look, and read the Bulletin Boards. We put up the names of ones in hospitals, and deceased on the left and the Veteran activities on the right with dates, times, and locations. After the programs or events are over, then, it's too late. The Sgt. Alvin C. York family was in town and I went to represent Post 95, and they talked about not letting the York Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN, be cut to the bone by cutting doctors and nurses jobs. It was on the Bulletin Board.

The Color Guard worked two or three events. We had no-shows. The Commander and I were at the POW-MIA special ceremony. It was a touching ceremony remembering 2,500 Veterans with the names of each on black balloons that were released.
