Commander's Corner

Last month was a busy one for Post 95. The Legionnaire Band played at the annual USO Dance sponsored by the CAVC at the Veteran's Day Ceremony at National Cemetery, and was in the East Ridge Christmas parade. Also, Post 95 participated in the Soddy Daisy JROTC Trojan Battalion Veterans Day Parade, Third District meeting in Spring City and the annual free golf day for Veterans at Indian Trace Golf Course in Dalton, GA. Post 95 presented a plaque to them honoring what they do for Veterans every year. This is the only place I know that gives Veterans something free on Veterans Day.

This year we are teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in the Toys for Tots campaign for local needy children. Collection boxes will be located in the main entrance to the lounge. New, unwrapped toys for children up to 12 years old are preferred. However, donations are also accepted. So please help with this worthy cause.

Our Thanksgiving dinner was a great success. Ernie and Aileen spent two days getting everything prepared. I would also like to thank the Ladies that serve every month. They do a great job!

Kim and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope to see you at our New Years Eve party.

For God and Country
Jim Ratcliffe, Commande

Cathy Brown, Adjutant 266-1610

SAL NEWS

Our participation at the monthly meetings is on the rise. Please pay your dues and join us on Tuesday, December 21st at 7:00 PM. Help us keep the homeless warm. Jackets, sweaters, gloves, blankets, sleeping bags, etc, will be accepted during the week of December 6th - 11th. On Saturday, Dec 11, the S.A.L.'s will deliver these needed items to the Community Kitchen. The S.A.L.'s will also give support Post 95's Toys for Tots program. We encourage everyone to donate a toy and feel the joy of making a needy child happy at Christmas.

Auxiliary News

The Auxiliary would like to thank the Legion for the Thanksgiving dinner. It was a great meal. Everyone enjoyed it.

Well, ladies, all the hustle has started for the holidays and I know everyone is busy. But let us not get so busy that we forget our veterans this holiday season. I would like to thank everyone who helped with the World War I Widows luncheon. The Lakeview Middle School choir did a great job with the Christmas carols. The ladies really enjoyed it.

We are doing real well on our membership. We have 373. Ladies, if you haven't paid your dues we really need to get our membership in. Please see Dot Stewart to pay your dues or mail them in.

If you haven't bought your tickets for the $500 cash give-a-way please do. It will be given away at the Christmas dinner. They are $1 each, or 6 for $5. If you have children or grandchildren that are Jrs., there will be a meeting for them on December 2 at 6:15 PM. Jo Bridges has a lot of things planned for them to do. They will find it a lot of fun and interesting. Please try to come.

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Honor Guard News

ATTN-HUT: We need to emphasize to our Veterans and their Ladies to take their discharge or DD-214 to the American Legion Post #95 and make sure you have it recorded on the Post computer for the Veteran Service record.

In the past couple of weeks, the Veterans Affairs, and myself could not get the approved burial and benefits until the last hour of the burial time. We were lucky to get this. The Honor Guard cannot wait until this last hour to call and make connection to get a team together and the same with the National Cemetery. Please take care of this promptly.

Safe and Happy Holidays.
