COMMANDER’S CORNER

For those who could not attend the Mid-Winter Conference in Kingsport, you missed seeing all the snow that we had. Now I know why they call it the Mid-Winter. I would like to thank Aileen and Ernie for getting all the food ready to take with us and the Auxiliary for helping set it up. Also, thanks to Steve, Redwing and all the others who helped set up the hospitality room.

Post 95 is a Charter Member of the World War II Memorial. They sent us a certificate and a lapel pin. I am going to have a special drawing at our meeting and give it away to one of our World War II Veterans.

Quite a few members of Post 95 got to meet the National Commander, Alan Lance while he was in our area know for myself, this was a nice experience. It was a pleasure to meet and hear him.

The State Convention is going to be June 16-18, 2000 in Nashville at the Sheraton Music City Hotel. You need to make your reservations now, if you are planning on attending. These rooms will fill up fast. Reservation forms are available in the lounge.

Starting this month, I need all news letter articles no later than the Wednesday before our regular monthly meeting week. This will ensure that the news letter will get out on time.

HONOR GUARD NEWS

I hope most of our membership saw the pictures and read the article of our Honor Guard in the paper on Monday, Jan 17th, 2000.  Staff writer Jenny Poole gave a good report of the Honor Guard’s story.  We members at Post 95 should be proud to have a dedicated Honor Guard Squad.  A very few Veterans Groups are so lucky to have this benefit.

Now, at the next Auxiliary meeting in February, I have been asked to speak on Americanism, and I am asking to have a large group of ladies and men to be there, or I might sing "Now that would be Sad".  I had a pretty good voice before tune came in style. Just joking.  Do come join us.

Ralph C. Wilson

Honor Guard Commander

AUXILIARY NEWS

The Holidays are now over and we hope everyone had a real good Holiday.  January was National Security month.  The Auxiliary would like to thank Carl Levi, our guest speaker.  He did a wonderful job. February 19th at 6:00 PM is our Las Vegas night.  We are asking all Auxiliary members (and Legionnaires if they like) to please donate something for our auction.  If you go to a restaurant just ask them if they would donate a gift certificate.  We need workers to go to stores and ask for donations.

Dot is doing real well with our membership.  We now have 424 paid members.  We still need 8 members.  If you haven’t done so, please pay as soon as possible.

I would like to thank Jean Atheran and the ones who helped her for doing a great job on the 500 cash give-a-way.  It was a great success. "Attention all Juniors"  Please try to come to your meeting which will be February 24th at 6:15 PM.

Ladies, I know that during all the Holidays that we do forget but please don’t forget our project, Aid to Our Veterans.  Bring anything that you think they can use at the hospitals.

I hope everyone had a good time at the Mid Winter Conference.  Please, everyone, don’t forget Las Vegas night and bring your donations for the auction.
