Commander's Corner

I would like to express my appreciation for all the support I received from the Legionnaires and Ladies Auxiliary during my term as Commander this past year. We have all worked together by "getting involved", and accomplished what the American Legion stands for, "people helping people".

I also appreciate the Legionnaires who turned out to vote in our May elections. Election results are: Commander - Jim Ratcliffe, 1st Vice - Charles Bates, 2nd Vice - Ed Armour and 3rd Vice - Frank Baskette. For Executive Committee: three-year - Richard Cook, one-year - Bob Owen, one-year - Larry Jeffery and one-year - Ernest Gilliam.

Installation of 2000-2001 officers will be Saturday, June 24, with dinner at 7 PM and installation at 8 PM. I thank you for your support, and I look forward to another year as your commander. I also look forward to working with the newly elected officers, Executive Committee, the Auxiliary, and the SALs this coming year.

June is state convention time. The state convention is in Nashville, June 16-18. For those attending the convention, I have directions, including a map, available in the lounge.

Last, but certainly not least, I would to thank Ernest Gilliam, Gene Grigsby, Aileen Wilson, the Auxiliary, and everyone else who worked hard to make all of our post functions, cookouts, monthly dinners, etc. such a big success this past year. Some of these folks are long overdue a rest, so hopefully we will see more volunteers throughout this new year.

For God and Country,

Jim Ratcliffe, Commander

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

I would like to congratulate all of the new officers for the 2000-2001 year. For the year 2000, we have 1,314 paid members. We are 53 short of meeting our membership goal for the year 2000. We need everyone to help us hit that goal by getting those 53 more members.

Cathy Brown, Adjutant 266-1610

MONTHLY MEETING

There will be no regular monthly meeting due to the state convention June 16-18 in Nashville. Officers to serve Post 95 in 2000-2001 will be installed Saturday, June 24, with dinner at 7 PM and installation at 8 PM.

HONOR GUARD NEWS

I want to thank James McDonald, our Color Guard, Legion Band and our Commander for their presence and support in our Armed Forces Day Parade. We worked up toward a front position and we moved rapidly through the parade in 15 to 20 minutes. So most of us had ample time to get to the Luncheon. A first for us. Most of the time we would be 15 to 30 minutes late for the Luncheon.

General Riggs made a great speech. Our CAVC did a good job. Commander Jim Ratcliffe did an outstanding job Friday night, May 19, presenting awards to many deserving people of Post 95.

It has been a very busy time for the past couple of months, but let us not forget the members that have passed on to the Post Everlasting, and fly your flags on Flag Day, Wednesday, June 14.

Ralph C Wilson,

Honor Guard Commander

AUXILIARY NEWS

The new year for the Auxiliary will start in July and all the new officers will need your help. You can help by taking part and attending all meetings. The new officers are: President - Pat McDade, 1st Vice President - Dot Stewart, 2nd Vice President - Barbara Crabtree, Chaplain - Annissa Witt, Secretary - Jo Smith, Treasurer - Aileen Wilson, and Sergeant at Arms - Joyce Harris. The Board members are Eva Hickey, Jeane Athearn, Jolie Brock, and Jo Bridges.

Jeane Athearn, our Poppy chairman, did a great job on the Poppy drive this year. Thanks to everyone who helped work this year. She could not have done so well without your help. We really broke our record!

Convention time is almost here. Make your plans to be in Nashville on June 16, 17, and 18.

I would like to thank everyone for helping make this past year a good one for our auxiliary. I could not have made it if I hadn't had your help and friendship.

We did make our membership goal. We have 462 members, and your dues of $15 can be paid at the July 4 picnic. Juniors dues are $3.

I would like to thank everyone who took a committee position, to the ones who helped clean the kitchen after each meeting, and to the ones who attended the meetings.

Board Meeting, June 14, 7 PM

Covered Dish, June 2, 7 PM

Regular Meeting, June 22, 8:00 PM
