Commander's Corner

I would like to thank Jo Bridges, Barbara Crabtree, Geraldine Perkins, and the other ladies who helped decorate the American Legion Hall for the installation of new officers.  Thanks to Joe Young for performing the installation ceremony.  Also, thanks to Ernest Gilliam, Gene Grigsby, and Aileen Wilson for the great food.  Congratulations to Ralph Wilson on receiving the Legionnaire of the Year award.

Post 95 did very well at the State Convention last month in Nashville.   We took first place at the State Convention with our yearbook, and with our Children and Youth program (in the large Post category).  Also, Joe Young was elected as Alternate National Executive Committeeman, John L Jones, Jr. was elected as State Commander of the SALs, and Mike Burnett was elected Third District SAL Commander.   Congratulations!!  We’re proud to say you are from Post 95.

U.S. Veterans of the Korean War are now eligible to wear a medal which was offered to them more than 50 years ago, but was never issued.  The medal will be no cost to those eligible U.S. Veterans of that conflict, or to their surviving next of kin.  The U.S. Air Force has been designated the lead agency to receive and distribute the medals.  I have posted the eligibility requirements and an example request form on the bulletin board in the lounge.  Check it out.

Don’t forget our Fourth of July celebration.  Look forward to seeing you there.

For God and Country.

Jim Ratcliffe, Commander

AUXILIARY NEWS

I would like to thank the ladies of the Auxiliary for electing me President for this next year.  I will serve this office to the best of my ability.  I would also like to thank all the ladies who are heading my committees.

Our Auxiliary is like the Heart.  It is only a hollow organ unless all parts are working together.  It is the source of life, the seat of emotions, courage, warmth, and affection.  We have all these things among our ladies.  We are the inner parts and together we can do anything.  I encourage all the ladies to attend our meetings and join in all our activities.

The Auxiliary is working on plans for a Luau the later part of July.   We will post information when plans have been finalized.

HONOR GUARD NEWS

I would like to share this letter thanking the CAVC, the American Legion Post 95, and the 82nd Airborne Honor Guard.

From Candice Underwood,

Cemetery Administrator for

the Chattanooga National Cemetery:

Dear Ralph,

Please convey my thanks to the CAVC/Post 95 Honor Guard who participated during our 2000 Memorial Day Activities.  During the Scout program and also during the traditional Memorial Day Program.  Your participation in providing the 21 Gun Salute made these programs a proud moment for all veterans, their families and friends.

It was a great time to gather and show our appreciation of veterans both living an deceased and our active duty military.  Your willingness to share your time is proof of your great support of our nation’s veterans and especially Tennessee and Georgia veterans.  It is conscientious and caring people like you that make our community a great place in which to live.

Thanks for a job well done!

Ralph Wilson,

Honor Guard Commander
