MILITARY SUPPORT

A group led by Stacy Griffin and June Griffin plan a rally at the entrance of the Y-12 plant at Oak Ridge Sunday, Aug. 8, at noon in support of the military and preparedness. They borrowed the slogan: "If there hadn’t been a Pearl Harbor, there wouldn’t have been a Hiroshima."

Sincerely,

Grady (at Blood Assurance)

AUXILIARY NEWS

Welcome to a new year and new officers.  It started off with an installation banquet and awards ceremony for the men.  The food was delicious and the music by the Big Band was wonderful.  Many thanks to the ladies who decorated the hall.  It was beautiful.  The Fourth of July picnic was great.  If you missed it, you missed good food, fun, and fellowship.  Dot Stewart did a great job of collecting dues.

The Luau was great fun, games, and food.  We had hula dancers, the limbo, a hula hoop contest, and lots more fun.  I want to thank Barbara Crabtree and all her helpers for making this a great luau.  The hall looked like we were in Hawaii.  Thanks to Jo Smith for all the colorful signs.  We hope to have more fun and games this year.  Come and join us.  "Who was the Big Cohuna?"

Pat McDade, Auxiliary President

HONOR GUARD NEWS

I would like to thank the Commander, Executive Board, Chaplain, Auxiliary, and SALs for the 100 percent support given this past year to our Honor Guard Team.  Visiting and calling our sick, checking on our seniors, stepping forward to be pallbearers, and letting each other know we care and will help.  That’s the American Legion way.  Let’s have another good year.

Ralph C. Wilson

Honor Guard Commander

SAL NEWS

The Fourth of July cookout was a great success due to the cooperative efforts of the Legion members, the Auxiliary and the SALs and their wives.  It was a tad warm, but we still enjoyed the day.  We are looking forward to many more activities when in which we as SALs can be involved.

Since we are becoming much more involved with Legion activities, we need more SAL members to help with these projects.  Let any SAL officer know that you are willing to help. Be at our next monthly meeting, Aug. 18, and become a part of an ever increasingly active SAL program.

Dale Gore, SAL Adjutant
