COMMANDER’S CORNER Thanks to the SALs, the Ladies Auxiliary, and all those who helped for a wonderful job on our monthly meal in October. Both the Early Bird breakfast and Halloween party were great successes. Thanks to all those who helped, and to those who supported Post 95 by attending. We also had a wonderful time in the rec area with the horseshoe tournament and shuffleboard. The Third District meeting will be held Nov. 11 at 6 PM, at Post 159 in Soddy Daisy. Please may plans to attend. The Veterans Day ceremony will be held at the National Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 AM. VFW Post 4848 will host. Hope to see everyone at this ceremony. Our regular monthly meeting will be held Friday, Nov. 17. You don’t want to miss our Thanksgiving meal at 7 PM, and the meeting to follow at 8 PM. Let’s all strive to meet our membership goal this year. If you haven’t paid you dues, please send those in as soon as possible. Also, don’t forget to "Ask...Just Ask" that neighbor or coworker to join a wonderful organization at American Legion Post 95.

SAL NEWS Our Barbecue grill raffle was a huge success, and we want to express our appreciation to everyone that participated by purchasing a ticket. It is our intention to continue raffling items each month in the future. The SALs also invite everyone to contribute to our annual warm clothing drive beginning now and continuing through Dec 15. Now is the time to empty your closets for an extremely worthy cause. Your contributions will be delivered to the Community Kitchen on Dec 16. Leave your contributed clothing next to the stage in the main meeting room please. We’re behind on our SAL membership goals. Please go ahead and pay your dues. If you know anyone who wants to become a member, we have applications readily available and will be glad to answer any questions. As usual, thanks to everyone who helped with the October meeting dinner. You know who you are!! Post 95 American Legionnaires have always supported the SALs, and the SALs will always support the legionnaires. That is our commitment. Dale Gore, SAL Adjutant AUXILIARY NEWS Our Halloween Party was a great success. The hotdogs and chili was enjoyed by all. If you were not here you missed seeing all the witches and goblins. We still have plenty of tickets for the $500 giveaway. This will be given away at the December Christmas Dinner. Get your tickets from Jean Atheran, or an Auxiliary member. Thanks to those who supported our Third District President Jo Bridges. The meeting was held at Post 95. Our November meeting falls on Thanksgiving so it will be changed. We will post the date in the lounge after our October meeting. Please get your 2001 membership dues in as soon as possible, as all membership needs to be paid before the last of December. In the absence of our President: Barbara Crabtree, 2nd Vice President
HONOR GUARD NEWS As Honor Guard Commander, I feel the need for a little chewing out. We have had as many as four or five funerals a week in the last couple of months, and probably one half or more being members of our American Legion Post 95. Out of our 1,250 Post 95 members, we have to use outside Veterans from other organizations to get a team of eight people to do a Military funeral. That’s Sad. As I look back the past sixteen years as Commander of our Honor Guard Teams, we have lost so many of our Veterans who have served on our team, and I am speaking about hard working Veterans. As the Honor Guard Team is doing the service, we see very few Post members or Auxiliary. We need to make a change here to show our love and respect to each other. I urge each and every one of you to let the families of our deceased know we care and support them. Ralph C. Wilson Honor Guard Commander
