COMMANDER’S CORNER The troops are beginning to return. We depart with our head held high and our country less one more threat from abroad. Let us pray for our remaining comrades in the Gulf and never forget those that were lost and wounded. I am so very proud of them. My thanks to all of those who helped with our special monthly meeting Friday, Mar. 18, with presentations of the Blue Star Banners to families with military relatives serving in Iraq. It was unforgettable. The turnout, the presentations by Maj. Gen. Bill Rains, the introduction by Brig. Gen. Carl Levi and attendance by Tyler Owens from Sen. Bill Frist's office were great. Ernie, Ray, and others who helped prepared the delicious meals. We appreciate the ribbons prepared by Peggy Sue, Jolie for the MIA/POW table presentation. Most of all, thanks to the families of our comrades who came to receive their BLUE STAR BANNER. We were honored to have the family of Marine Sgt. Brendon Reiss, from Cleveland, who came to receive the GOLD STAR BANNER just after having attended the ceremonies at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. That night was truly an experience I will never forget. Don't forget the convention at the Music City "Sheraton Hotel" in Nashville on June 19-22. If you have not obtained your room, you need to quickly. If you need assistance with that please contact me at the Post 624-9105. Next monthly meeting is "Awards Night". Please attend. For God and Country, Charles Bates, Commander MEMBERSHIP
REPORT We
are close to meeting our membership quota of 1371. We have 1284 as of
this letter so we need 87 to reach that goal. I will have a list of
unpaid members ready for our Executive Meeting, Monday, April 28, and if
anyone would like to volunteer to help call members who have not renewed
for 2003, please leave a message for me at the Legion. Any help will be
greatly appreciated. Ask your neighbor, ask a friend, ask someone who
has just not renewed
to sign up now. Carl
