COMMANDER’S CORNER Not
only do we have daily happy hour from 4 PM until 7 PM and just $2 for
meals on meeting nights, but now Wednesday there is entertainment in the
lounge. Bands, music, games, and lots of Wednesday night partying. No
more boring Wednesday nights at home. Come to the American Legion and
spend time with us. A Blue Star Banner displayed in a home is a tradition in America. The banner lets others know that someone in this home is serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. As citizens steel themselves for the long, difficult "War in Iraq," the Blue Star Service Banner tradition reminds us all that this war touches every neighborhood in the land. A 1926 war mother's flag hoisted every Veteran's Day at 11 minutes after 11 AM and flies beneath the national colors until sundown to commemorate the millions of Americans who died during WWI and WWII. At our next monthly meeting on April 18, Post 95 will be awarding the Blue Star Banner to families who have service men and women now serving in the armed forces. If you are interested in displaying the Blue Star Banner and have family members in the war with Iraq, please contact Post 95 to be presented the banner at this time, or call Commander Charles Bates at 624-1496 or 593-3602. The banner will be presented at the dinner portion of the meeting. Let us be forever mindful of our men and women who are in a foreign land in service of their country. For God and Country, Charles Bates, Commander FROM

Give a lot of thought to who you would like to have to represent you in our Post activities for next year. MEMBERSHIP
STANDING As of March 22, Post 95 Legion membership stands at 1244. We need 127 additional paid members to reach 100% and our goal of 1371. We also need 16 more to reach an all time high of 1387. In the last 18 years Post 95 has reached an all time high 15 times, so you can see we still are a growing Post. Let us work! Reach out! Sign up new members and delinquent members. We all enjoy what our post has to offer. Let us not be selfish about it, share it with others. When we do that we are still working for the veterans.
HONOR GUARD NEWS Once again I would like to explain about our Chattanooga Area Veterans Council. We have 45 to 50 veteran organizations including our auxiliaries. The yearly dues are $20 and each organization that has paid their dues get the newsletter. The key role is to co-ordinate our veteran's goals and to fight for veteran's affairs. We fought and kept our armed forces day parade going and, when the past parade committees quit, we fought to get grants of money to build the Pavilion. We had a lot of other goals in order to support our veterans. Our Honor Guard leads our Special Olympic's Parade and the CAVC provides a small flag to each special person who is in our lead off for the games. Just a couple of things we do plus coordinate all our veteran's holiday programs. The dates are in our newsletter, just read and disseminate to veterans organizations. Remember our HONOR GUARD WORK. Ralph C Wilson AUXILIARY
NEWS Carl Levi, Hamilton County Trustee, presented Geraldine Perkins a Korean Service Medal in honor of her brother, Pvt. Earl F. Clayton, who sacrificed his life for his country. It was a beautiful presentation. The April Auxiliary meeting will be election night. Your 2003 dues MUST have been paid by March 27 in order to vote. In order to receive a ballot you must bring your 2003 dues card to the meeting. You will be voting for the following: President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sgt-at-Arms, Chaplain and Board members. The East Tennessee meeting, which was held on Saturday, March 22, went very well. The luncheon was wonderful and thanks to everyone that brought something and thanks to Charlotte for getting donations from various businesses for food and door prizes. Poppy Drive will begin in May. Becky Harris is Poppy Chairperson this year. So please let her know when you will be able to work. If you have a daughter or granddaughter that would like to be "Poppy Queen" or "Little Miss Poppy," please see Becky for that also. Board
Meeting Thursday, April 17, 6:30 PM. Monthly
Meeting Thursday, April 24, 7 PM, covered dish Meeting will begin at approximately 8 PM Marcia Heath, President SAL NEWS Looks like it finally may be springtime. "Thank Goodness." This means there are no more excuses not to attend SAL monthly meetings and become involved in SAL activities. Despite our best efforts, there are still a great number of members who have not paid their dues. I would like to enlist the help of American Legion and Auxiliary members who have family and/or friends in the SALS to remind those members to pay their dues as soon as possible. I believe that if these members could see the many letters and plaques of appreciation from the various charities and organizations we support, they would also experience the same great feeling of gratification that I do. So, come on back and get involved. You'll be glad you did. We appreciate everyone's support and we pledge to continue to support the American Legion. Thank you. Dale Gore, SAL Commander Election
