FORCES CELEBRATION US ARMY YEAR COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 20,
2004 Military
Co-Chairman Carl Levi called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. with 15
members present. Ralph Wilson offered the invocation and Ernie Seagle led
the pledge of allegiance. The
minutes were approved as read. No
financial report was given. Carl
Levi introduced Dr. Don Loftis, 2004 Parade Marshall. The following
assignments were made and reports given: Activities: VIP Reception
– James Darling. No
report. Luncheon –
Carl Levi will have tickets available in early March. Tables are $125
each. Speaker will be Major General (R) Pat Brady, Medal of Honor
Recipient. Breakfast – Billy Hewett . No report Military Bands
– Carl Levi has commitments from 2 military bands. Will release 1
Army Band. Static
Displays – Ralph Wilson volunteered to assist. Military VIP’s – Patty Parks is assembling a list of VIP contacts. Civilian
VIP’s – Frank Hughes. No report. Publicity: Billboards –
William Sisson. No report. Advertising – Carl Levi reported that Earl Freudenberg is unable to help. He will contact Kevin West who usually helps in this area. Media/Photography
– Gary Petty is contacting the Times Free Press. Speakers –
Charles Samuel. No report Historian –
no assignment and no report. Telephone – Edith Whitman. Mary Smith reported that Edith is now back home. Robert Daugherty volunteered to help with making telephone calls. Transportation: William Blake. No report. Emergency
Units – Fred Hedrick. No report. Traffic Management – Sgt. Jeff Clarke, CPD, reported that the proposed Market Street route is good to go. Vehicle Signs – Jim Shull. No report. Parade Cars
– Dan Lovin. No report. Parade – Bob Lahiere requested a list of updated phone numbers. The Parade Theme will be APPRECIATION OF A NATION. Participation – Mary Smith has mailed the invitation letters and responses are coming in. The registration deadline is April 9, 2004. Flyover – Don Loftis contacted Ft. Rucker but they do not have the available manpower at the present time. Carl Levi contacted the Commander at Ft. Campbell who cannot give a commitment because the equipment has been in the desert and must be overhauled. A request will be made to the Army National Guard. Color Guard – Ralph Wilson has requested that the 101st Airborne provide the Color Guard. They have troops serving in Iraq and are unable to provide a firm commitment at this time. May need help from another unit. Reviewing Stand – Burt Sawyer plans to have the reviewing stand between 7th and 8th Streets. Will investigate the possibility of further elevating the stand. Staging –
Major Dietz said the USMC will handle if they have the staff to do so. Floats – Robert Daugherty has not received any requests for trailers. Permits – Carl Levi will request permits from the City of Chattanooga. Walkie Talkies – Bob Lahiere reported that the walkie talkies are taken care of. Flags – Ernie Seagle reported that the flags will start on Market Street at MLK and run to 6th Street or beyond. School Bands – Johnny Horne plans to meet with Band Directors. Dr. Loftis has been assisting with the Board of Education. Hixson and Central HS have already committed. Buses –
William Blake. No report. JrROTC – Col. Tom McConnell sent word through Carl Levi that he expects full participation this year. Boy Scouts – Bill Leonard. No report. Security – Sgt. Jeff Clarke believes that security issues have been taken care of. Sanitation – Bob Lahiere reported that this issue has been taken care of. New Business: Carl Levi
reminded everyone of the CAVC Installation Banquet on March 26th
and the Medal of Honor Fundraiser which will be held on April 16th.
Dates for the Ouachita Trip have not yet been confirmed. The next
meeting will be held on March 19, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. in the Naval Reserve
Station. The meeting
