In leaving his post in Congress, Texas Rep. Dick Armey gave some parting advice to President George W. Bush and to Attorney General John Ashcroft. He warned that excesses in hunting out terrorism by destroying liberty was a danger in itself. Destroying freedom while trying to save it is self defeating. Writs of habeas corpus have been ignored. Monitoring phone calls and personal contact have not seen such excesses promoted since the days of Ken Starr. The wisdom of Rep. Armey will be missed. It's a shame that a motor mouth like Sen. Trent Lott isn't leaving instead. His racists remarks that Strom Thurmond should have been elected president are unforgivable. He is an embarrassment to the Republican Party, which needs more Dick Armeys and no Trent Lotts. ******** ******** ******** November
