Gilley Protests Transfer Of Secret Service Agent Gobble
posted December 29, 2003
Bradley County Sheriff Dan Gilley said he was "very disheartened to learn
of the pending transfer of Secret Service Agent Tim Gobble from the Chattanooga
office to Washington D.C."
Sheriff Gilley said, "I was particularly disturbed to read the reason for
the transfer was supposedly his inability to work in a cooperative manner with
local law enforcement, and the inference that this claim included the Bradley
County Sheriff's Office.
"I would like to go on record stating the working relationship between
Agent Gobble and this office has always been of the highest professional
stature, and he, or other agents from his office under his supervision, have
been prompt in responding to our request for assistance in every instance.
"I have witnessed a new and improved sense of cooperation between law
enforcement agencies at the federal, state, and local level in recent times,
particularly since September 11, 2001. Agent Gobble has continually demonstrated
this attitude in his relationship with this office, and to my knowledge, with
all other agencies in his service area.
"I sincerely hope those within the Secret Service administration will
reconsider Agent Gobble's transfer, and will allow our local law enforcement
community to continue to benefit from our working relationship with a very fine
representative of this essential branch of federal law enforcement."
Mr. Gobble was on the Cleveland City Council for 11 months, but he resigned
after he was critical of Police Chief Lee Reese, who took a leave and then
retired from the chief post.
