THE STARS MEET IN CENTER COURT
Dennis Miller and Dustin Hoffman met in court--the tennis court that is. "A Night at the Net" is a yearly event hosted by the Mercedes Benz Cup held at the UCLA Tennis Center.
Miller teamed up with tennis pro Mark Philippousses while Hoffman partnered with Michael Chang, the 1996 Mercedes Benz champ.
The lobes and faults were played for charity--MusiCares, the heart of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The winner of the doubles match - Miller and Philippousses.
On the final day of the Mercedes Benz Cup, Jan-Michael Gambill, a hot new tennis hopeful, thanked William Shatner, his lucky charm. "This is the first time Mr. Shatner's been in the audience and I've lost," he told the cheering crowd at UCLA's Tennis Center. Shatner smiled and tipped his hat to the young tennis player. Gambill lost to Michael Chang in the final match of the tournament.
HUNTER PLAYING BILLIE JEAN
Looks like Academy Award winning actress Holly Hunter is in negotiations to play tennis great Billie Jean King for ABC-TV. "Battle of the Sexes" chronicles the milestone match between King and tennis pro Bobby Riggs at the Houston Astrodome. King won the match and single-handily brought women's tennis to the forefront. Look for a spring airdate.
JOHN BARLEYCORN COMES TO THE BIG SCREEN
Scotland's most famous poet might find his way to the movies, that's Robert Burns. Screenwriter and fellow Scotsman, Alan Sharp, is scripting the screenplay by returning to his native Scotland to research one of the most charismatic figures in Scottish history. The Hollywood Reporter says the big brouhaha is the casting of the bard of Scotland -- the flurry of speculation includes Johnny Depp, Robert Carlyle and Ewan McGregor as major contenders.
DANNY GLOVER GOES HOLLYWOOD...
Besides directing, actors like to own restaurants. Steven Spielberg, Sly Stone and Bruce Willis -- to name just a few. While growing up in San Francisco, Danny Glover decided French-fries was an at the top of the food chain. His mom prepared homemade fries from fresh potatoes purchased at the local farmer's market. Six months ago, Glover opened Hollywood Fries in Los Angeles near the campus at UCLA. Just fries, you say? Glover's bistro offers 30 dipping sauces ranging from Lethal Weapon (Cajun pepper and mayo) to Godzarlic (fresh garlic and mayo) and side dishes like shrimp and chicken wings. Mouth watering, yet? Don't worry, Glover plans to open 300 Hollywood Fries around the country in the next five years.

MICK JAGGAR GATHERS NO MOSS
Mick Jaggar's labor of love is finally coming to the big screen.
Mick Jaggar and his production company, Jagged Films, purchased the rights to Robert Harris' thriller, Enigma, over three years ago. Blood, sweat and tears on Jaggar's part paid off. The screen version of this best selling novel began filming in London last month. Jaggar's screen credit? Producer, of course!
Enigma, based on the Robert Harris novel, is a thriller set in England during World War II. Directed by Michael Apted ("The World is Not Enough"), it has a screenplay by Tom Stoppard "Shakespeare In Love") and stars Dougray Scott ("M:I-2") and Kate Winslet.
The story deals with a company of British military men and mathematicians joining forces to break the complex German codes. In the end, they manage to track and predict the enemy troop movements and, more than likely, shorten the war.
Jaggar, who turned 57 last month, is looking to a 2001-year release for a project that gives him total satisfaction.
