THE
BAKING POWDER IN ME
Catholic
writer Macrina Wiederkehr always makes me think. Those who can make us
think are our greatest treasures. She wrote
I was just thinking
one morning
during meditation
how much alike
hope
and baking powder are:
quietly
getting what is
best in me
to rise.
We need friends who fan our hopes and dreams. No matter how much
strength we have, we have times when we are weak. Hopelessness breeds
weakness. How sweet when someone believes in you at a time when you are
having a hard time believing in yourself.
Without baking powder our biscuits are flat. Without hope, our
motivation is flat. Without baking powder our biscuits are hard. Without
hope, our hearts become hard.
Macrina adds:
I always think of that
when I eat biscuits now
and wish I could be
more faithful to
the baking powder in me.
One more way to keep our hope up is to stir up hope in the hearts of
people we are around every day. You cannot encourage another without
encouraging yourself.
Be baking powder to thyself and others~
